The Debate on Assault Weapons in the US

The Debate on Assault Weapons in the US The federal government of the United States of America should prohibit citizens from owning assault weapons. Discuss Assault Weapons Do you think weapons pose a threat to the individual and social level? But before this let us know what counts as an assault weapons. There is no technical definition of assault weapons, but it includes the fully automatic weapons, which fire continuously when the trigger is held down. Then there are semiautomatic weapons that reload automatically but fire only once each time the trigger. Semiautomatic pistols and rifles are extremely common in the United States in different sizes and shapes. In the last five years, there were many suggestions to limit the availability of assault weapons. Limiting the availability of weapons reduces the number of deaths, theft, and assaults in the community. Also, It can stop the assaults and foil terrorist operations. School disputes would be less lethal if weapons were elusive and more expensive. In addition, the government should deploy weapons awareness programs to spread awareness among people. Furthermore, the government should enforce laws on arms dealers to avoid many problems. Despite the government’s attempts to prevent weapons, the majority of murders and rubbery are caused by weapons. The federal government of the United States of America should prohibit citizens from owning assault weapons to limit murders, shooting accidents, and armed robbery. Guns have made a lot of problems and murder is one of them. Courtshave many cases for murders and crimes and many types of them. According to Gary kleck,â€Å" Guns are heavily involved in violence in America. In 1993, about 71% of homicides and 63% of suicides involved guns. While it is not obvious whether there would be fewer deaths if there were fewer guns, or whether guns availability among those who would use guns for violent purposes, there is no doubt that a big share of America’s fatal violence involves the use of firearms† (no page). This explains that limiting assault weapons decreases the rate of murders. The government can make a simple to the policy can protect the citizen. For example, firearms have become a popular way to commit suicide. Therefore, the Israeli government decided limiting access to weapons to reduce the rates of suicide within a simple suicide rate fell by 40%. Reducing the opportunities to obtain weapons reduces caused a significant chang e in the suicide rates. Therefore, a simple change in the policy may urge a big change in the community (Lubin, no page). Even if all guns have been avoided it does not mean that crimes will not happened, but prohibiting assault weapons will limit crimes and people will be safer. Shooting accident is one of the problems that caused by assault weapons. People usually keep their weapons in houses, but this is not safe. Kids can see the weapons and they will try to use them. Lack of understanding of weapons may occur big accidents like hurting or killing someone. Studies were conducted in the school shooting in a variety of disciplines. But so far there is not any competent authority to examine these events (Mushert, no page). Weapons can be safe if PEOPLE learn how to deal with them. However, people may not apply the laws if it did not come from the government. There is an example that happen every year, that is large number of children and teenager who get killed or injured in the best case scenario that would happen by wrong using gun in the United States. And family members, or strangers shoot some of them, either intentionally or unintentionally. It is true if we said that, some kids are using guns to attempt suicide, and these attempts prove successful mor e often than suicides by other things that is may use. The availability of guns allows many issues, and armed rubbery is one of the issues. As many issues have solutions, the government tries the best to solve these problems. Armed robbery is a great danger to the community. People do not feel that they are safe and they are afraid on their selves, kids and their money from thieves. Armed rubbery could happen easier if assault weapons are permissible. Without weapons thieves will not try to burgle on banks, stores and houses. Even if thieves try to burgle, it will be easy and safe to the government to catch them. If the government limits the availability of weapons, the rate of armed rubbery will decreases. In some countries such as the united state, assault weapon is legal. In addition, political term used in firearms laws in order to define and restrict specific firearms. In fact, there is a debate in Considerable about continues on how assault weapons should be defined. For instance, they are trying to limit kids of using weapon like gun in order to make the community feel comfortable about saving there children from this big risk which is legalize weapon. Federal law sets the minimum standards for firearm regulation in the United States; however individual states have their own laws, some of which provide further restrictions, others which have more lenient guidelines. The Gun Control Act of 1968 prohibited the sale of firearms to several categories of individuals, including persons under eighteen-years of age, those with criminal records, the mentally disabled, unlawful aliens, dishonorably discharged military personnel, and others. In 1993, the law was amended by the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, which mandated background checks for all unlicensed persons purchasing a firearm from a federally licensed dealer. However, critics maintain that a so-called â€Å"gun show loophole,† codified in the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986, effectively allows anyone, including convicted felons, to purchase firearms without a background check. As of December 2012, there were no federal laws banning semi-automatic assault weapons, military-style .50 caliber rifles, handguns, or large capacity ammunition magazines, which can increase the potential lethality of a given firearm. There was a federal prohibition on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines between 1994 and 2004, but Congress allowed these restrictions to expire. To sum up, criminal rates in some countries increase to nearly unexpected levels of crime and the entire increase was attributable to homicides committed by young people with guns. Guns are one of reason for this increase. If the government limit the availability of weapons and make more expensive, the rate of crimes will decrease. That why governments should limit the availability of assault weapons. Work Cited Arindrajit Dube, Oeinderil Dube and Omar Garcia-PONCE (2013). Philippine Culture Essay

Culture is a person’s social heritage or the customary ways in which groups organize their ways of behaving, thinking and feeling. It is transmitted from one generation to another through language. It presents people with ways of relating to others to their surroundings. Culture represents the designs or recipes for living, the interrelated network of norms and roles. It encompasses modes of thinking, acting, and feeling found in a society and includes everything an individual has acquired as a member of a society. It tells one what to do, what not to and how to do things (Poethig, 2005). From our culture, we learn to determine what behavior is appropriate and what is inappropriate, what is good and what wrong behavior is, what are allowed and what are prohibited, and even which smells are pleasant and which are not. One of the cultures that this paper investigates is the Philippine Culture. II. Discussion The Filipinos of the last quarter of the twentieth century are the sum total of the social strains and cultural elements that are Aeta, Indonesian, Malaysian, Hindu, Arabian, Chinese, Spanish, Americans; in short, the Filipinos are cosmopolitan in nature. They are both oriental and occidental. The Aeta, Indonesian, Malayan, Hindu, Arabian, and Chinese elements are the foundation of the Filipino’s oriental nature—the core of their moral and social conscience and cultural identity (Carino, 2008). From early trade and commerce and intermarriages between the Filipino ancestors and Chinese and Hindu merchants, as well as the wave of settlements of other Asian neighbors into the country, the oriental side of the Filipino has evolved. Interpersonal and social relationships revolve around â€Å"blood ties,† marriage, and ritual kinship (Carroll, 2002). Spanish and American culture composes the Filipinos’ Occidentalism. Through centuries of colonial rule, the Spanish influence found its way into their religious, political, economic, and educational life, as well as into their language, dress, and diet. In addition, Filipinos are also inclined to status-oriented behavior, shame, debt of gratitude, self-esteem as the desire for smooth interpersonal relations (Carroll, 2002). All of these interweave with one another and add up to an accentuation of authoritarian in the Filipino. Filipinos are also shame-oriented, that is, their major concern is social approval, acceptance by a group, and belonging to a group. Their behavior is generally dependent on what others will think, say, or do. Their desires and ambitions depend on what pleases or displeases others. Being bashful still controls much of the Filipino’s behavior (Poethig, 2005). Moreover, the Family Code of the Philippines defines marriage as a special contract of permanent union between a man and woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life. No marriage is valid in Philippine society unless the following requirements are present: the legal capacity of the contracting parties who must be a male and a female, and consent freely given in the presence of the solemnizing officer (Carino, 2008). The minimum age for marriage is 18 years but parental consent is necessary for those below 21 years. On one hand, the basic social units of Philippine society are the nuclear family, which includes the father, mother, and children, and the bilaterally extended kinship group, which embraces all relatives of the father and mother. Other important relationships are those of the siblings and the cousins and of the grandparents and grandchildren. The Christian Filipino family has often been described as a large family group, usually including three generations in the same home, which is, â€Å"extended† in terms of membership. Thus, the Filipino family is frequently said to be patriarchal in authority. Furthermore, the national language is Filipino, a formal version of Tagalog, an indigenous language. English is widely used in commerce and education. Most of the people are able to speak English. Only a few are able to speak Spanish (Poethig, 2005). Of the numerous indigenous languages—based mainly on Malayan-Polynesian languages—there are nine major ones. Of these, the most widely spoken are Cebuano, Tagalog, Ilocano, and Hiligaynon. III. Conclusion As a conclusion, in terms of residence, the Filipino family may be said to be bilocal and neolocal. The residence of the more influential and affluent family is likely to be the place of residence of the newly married couple. Where the girl’s parents are wealthier than the boy’s parents, the couple is likely to choose the residence of the girl. As a rule, Filipinos practice endogamy. One is likely to marry within one’s locality grouping, social class, religion, or nationality grouping. The rationale is that the adjustive process is easier when one marries within one’s group than when one marries outside it since one is already aware of its folkways and mores. Football and sociology Essay

American football as we know it originated from rugby played in Britain in the mid-19th century. The person who Americans consider the â€Å"Father of American Football† is Walter Camp. Professional football can be traced back to 1982, when there was a $500 contract for the Allegheny Athletic Association and the Pittsburgh Athletic Club to play a game against each other. Originally football was primarily a sport of the Midwestern industrial towns in the United State. In 1902, the American Professional Football Association was formed and two years later the National Football League. The competition was fierce between the two leagues, which led the two leagues to merge. Football eventually became national. When the two leagues merged is when the Super Bowl was formed. This is the most viewed event in the United States on a yearly basis. Football has grown for many years now and now has 32 teams. According to the Scarborough Research data, the NFL fans mirror the general United States population in many areas including age, race and income. There are a few discrepancies which include that men account for 49% of the general population, however the account for 58% of the NFL fans versus women who account for 51% of the general population but only account for $35-50K, in which they account for 19% of the fan base for the NFL. The report also states that there are more NFL fans that are married than non-married. The age group with the highest attendance whether on television or at the actual games is 35-44 years old. The Scarborough Report has a tremendous amount of statistics regarding NFL fans. The list goes from what they like to eat or drink to how many kids live in the household. I was very amazed by the information that was researched. In the society today, football affects almost every household. The impact of football has grown over the last few decades. The number of channels on the television in which sports can be watched has had a massive effect on the society. There are now channels just for specific sports and these channels only show that particular sport on that channel, all day. Football is a very physical sport. Youth like to see the physical part of the sport and they use the sports players as their role models. They all want to have muscles like the football players and be tough like the football players and of course they want to play football as well. The impact of football has both negative and positive factors. I found an article on the wives of the coaches of football. It was very interesting. In the article it states that in 1989, a group of women who were married to football coaches met at the American Football Coaches Association convention in Nashville, Tennessee (Tucker, 2001) and decided to form a support group. Evidently, they were feeling a little let out of the loop. For many men, football allows for violence and male bonding (Nelson, 1994), however, for women, football often means competing for men’s attention, or worrying about boyfriends, husbands or sons on the field. Within this article it also talks about how the spheres changed because men were known to leave the home and go outside to work and women stayed inside and were domesticated. Football is for men and it classifies them as performers and heroes, however women are classified as watchers and admirers. This article overall is showing the differences in men and women in regards to football. There were a lot of different opinions by different people who had heard about the organization of the American Football Coaches’ Wives Association. How this group puts together recipe books and visits the sick children in the hospital was a great asset to the group but they still don’t get the recognition that the football players get. This was a very tougher paper for me to write due to the fact that even though I like football, I have never looked at it in any other way than occasional entertainment. I am not a die-hard fan who watches the sport every chance that I get.Scarborough Research Examines NFL Fan Demos, QSR (2009, September). How To Use the Preterite and Imperfect Tenses of Ser

Spanish has at least two common ways of translating simple phrases such as it was using a form of the verb ser — era and fue — but it isnt always easy to know which one to use. Uses for the Two Past Tenses of Ser  Overlap The two forms represent different past tenses, era for the imperfect and fue for the preterite. Corresponding forms also exist for subjects other than it — you could say either eramos and fuimos for we were, for example. Conceptually, the differences between the two past tenses are fairly easy to grasp: the imperfect tense generally refers to actions that occurred numerous times and/or didnt have a definite end, while the preterite typically refers to actions that took place or at least ended at a definite time. However, for the English speaker, applying those concepts to the past tenses of ser can be problematic, partly because it seems in practice that native speakers commonly use the imperfect for states of being that had a definite end, while an application of the rule above might suggest use of the preterite. Similarly, it would seem logical to say, for example, era mi hija for she was my daughter, because presumably once a daughter always a daughter, but in fact fue mi hija also is heard. Similarly, it isnt hard to come up with sentences structured and translated similarly where one of the verb forms is preferred over the other. Here are two such pairs:  ¿Cà ³mo fue tu clase? (How was your class? The preterite tense is preferred here.) ¿Cà ³mo era tu juventud? (How was your childhood? The imperfect tense is preferred.) ¿Cà ³mo fue el partido? (How was the game? Preterite.) ¿Cà ³mo era la ciudad antes? (How was the city before? Imperfect.) Which Tense of Ser Is Preferred? It is difficult to formulate an exact rule for which tense of ser is preferred. But it may be helpful to think of the imperfect (such as era and eran) being used primarily when talking about inherent characteristics and to think of the preterite (such as fue and fueron) to refer to events in the broadest sense of the word. You can see this distinction in this recent list of top Web search results for era:  ¿Einstein era malo en matemà ¡ticas? (Was Einstein bad in mathematics?)Si ayer era malo ... (If yesterday was bad ...) ¿Quien dijo que la marihuana era malo? (Who said marijuana was bad?)No sabà a que yo era capaz. (I didnt know I was capable.) ¿Era malo Hitler en realidad? (Was Hitler actually bad?) In all these sentences, it might be said that era is used to refer to the basic nature of persons or things, even if they had a definite end. Note the differences from the following: El semestre pasado fue malo. (The past semester was bad.)Tu amor fue malo. (Your love was bad.)El paisaje de amenazas digitales fue malo durante el aà ±o pasado. (The cyberthreat scene was bad during the past year.)Esos negocios fueron malos  para Grecia. (Those businesses were bad for Greece.)Al final Chiquidrà ¡cula no fue malo para Panamà ¡. (In the end Chiquidrà ¡cula wasnt bad for Panama.) These sentences also refer to the nature of of things, but the things can all be thought of as a type of event. The love of the second sentence and the businesses in the fourth were  decidedly temporary, for example, and the other sentence subjects can be thought of events in a more traditional sense. The use of the preterite also is more common when it is followed by a past participle: El concierto fue pospuesto. (The concert was postponed.)El goleador brasileà ±o fue detenido con marihuana y crack. (The Brazilian goalie was arrested with marijuana and crack.)Los animales fueron acostumbrados al ambiente de laboratorio. (The animals were accustomed to the laboratory environment.)   Unfortunately, this guide is far from foolproof. Ayer era malo and ayer fue malo can both be used for yesterday was bad. And even though the postponing of a concert might be seen as something that requires the preterite, youll sometimes here statements such as el concierto era pospuesto. Also,  native speakers seem to show little preference between era difà cil de explicar and fue difà cil de explicar, both of which translate to It was difficult to explain. Ultimately, as you learn Spanish and hear it used by native speakers, youll get a clearer idea of which verb form sounds more natural.
